LCJVS Celebrates Success of Allied Health Science Seniors in STNA Certification

Lorain County JVS Allied Health Science seniors are certified State Tested Nurse Aides.

Sixteen seniors from Lorain County JVS have achieved certification as State Tested Nurse Aides (STNAs), marking a milestone as the first group of Allied Health Science seniors to participate in the STNA program. This initiative has been eagerly embraced by students seeking valuable career opportunities.

Marianna Frank, a senior from Oberlin, reflected on her experience, noting, "My junior year really prepared me for the STNA coursework and exam." According to Allied Health Science Instructor, Krysten Yonkof, students receive comprehensive classroom instruction aligned with the program curriculum, complemented by hands-on clinical experience totaling 16 hours in a local healthcare facility.

Jasper Parr, a senior from Wellington, emphasized the critical skills acquired through the program, stating, "One of the biggest things we learned was proper handwashing to make sure we did not cross-contaminate or spread pathogens." Parr highlighted the program's focus on bedside care techniques, safe patient handling, and effective communication with patients to determine their needs and preferences.

Following their successful completion of the STNA program and passing the exam, both Frank and Parr have begun their careers as STNAs. Parr is employed at Kendall at Oberlin, while Frank works at Sprenger Health Care Anchor Lodge Retirement Village in Lorain.

Looking ahead, both Frank and Parr have set their sights on furthering their education at Lorain County Community College to pursue Registered Nurse (RN) licensure post-graduation.

LCJVS celebrates the accomplishments of its Allied Health Science seniors and looks forward to continued success in preparing students for rewarding careers in healthcare.
