Students in the Marketing and Management program recently competed at the DECA state competition and two have earned the opportunity to advance at the national level in Atlanta, Georgia in late April.

Sydney Sexton, marketing senior from Firelands and Jacob Kuzak, marketing senior form Clearview achieved a Gold Level Certification in the DECA’s School-based Enterprise (SBE) program, and will take part in the national competition. A SBE is an entrepreneurial operation in a school setting that provides goods and service to meet the needs of the market.

SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning spaces that integrate National Curriculum Standards in Marketing, Finance, Hospitality and Management. Sexton and Kuzak’s SBE was operating The Corner Shoppe, a fully operational store located inside the Lorain County JVS.

Ariel Kluding, marketing junior from Midview, was a state top 10 finalist in the Business Services Marketing event.

DECA is a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
