    Students Give Back
Sydney and Ana sort food at Second Harvest Food Bank

    April 9, 2018

It all started with a trip to deliver a check from a food drive that took place earlier in the school year. What came of that short trip is something much greater than what was expected.

After students in the Landscape and Greenhouse Management and Industrial Equipment Mechanics programs presented the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio with the check from the school’s food drive, they collectively had a feeling of wanting to do more. They spoke with their instructors, Beth Berthold and Greg Hendricks, and asked if they would be able to set up a day and time for their classes to come back and volunteer.

That day came recently when the classes came together and went to the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio for a day of volunteering.

“There are always people in need, and it is always a good thing to give back,” shared Don Sabella, Landscape and Greenhouse Management senior from Amherst. “It was neat to interact with other people from the community as well. It was interesting hearing their stories and being able to share with them all that we do at Lorain County JVS.”

Landscape and Greenhouse Management Instructor, Beth Berthold said she was proud of her students for asking to volunteer and give back. “This is a fun way to help others, and the feeling you get when you can help is great. Plus, it is nice for the students to meet and interact with other volunteers.”
