JVS staff and students receive the Buckle Up Bowl Award

The Lorain County JVS received the "Best Seat Belt Usage Overall" award in this year's Buckle Up Bowl. The competition, which is hosted by the Lorain County Safe Communities Coalition, is between eleven Lorain County high schools.

Lorain County JVS High School Principal, Jill Petitti, was excited to win the award, but also knows that spreading the message of safe driving happens at the JVS all year round, and not during just one week. “We talk about safe driving habits and the importance of buckling up, nearly every day. We want our kids to be safe and to know the importance of safe driving,” shared Petitti.

The high school students at JVS were surveyed before and after the Buckle Up Bowl week and received the award with a ninety percent seat belt usage.

Deputy David Walker, JVS School Resource Officer, and Principal Petitti conducted several activities to promote seatbelt awareness with the students throughout the week. “I believe the importance of wearing your seatbelt is now built into the culture of our school and the students now take the initiative to promote seatbelts on their own,” said Petitti.

Kathleen E. Solove, Health Education Specialist, Health Promotion & Chronic Disease Prevention from Lorain County Public Health, recently stopped by the JVS to deliver the award to Principal Petitti, Deputy David Walker and numerous JVS students.
