| HST Students Earn College Credit for STNA Training
 | | Senior Health Science Technology Students | August 28, 2008 -- All fourteen students in the Lorain County JVS Health Science Technology Program recently passed the State Tested Nurse Aides (STNA) Course.
The following students, listed by school district, completed the STNA training.
Firelands-Candace Goodman: Keystone-Tanya Gallion, Nicole Jenkins, Sondra Lowman, Candy Roldan: Midview-Morgan Adkins, Hillary Saylor, Hillary Sturgeon, Ashley Reeves. North Ridgeville-Chelsey Palmer. Sheffield/Sheffield Lake-Samantha Thomas. Wellingon-Emily Touma, Ashley Reese, Lauren Stumphauzer.
“The students participated in three weeks of skills training at several assisted living facilities over the summer,” stated instructor Holly Sofia. “They should be commended for dedicating themselves to this training and sacrificing their free time over the summer in pursuit of advancing their careers in the healthcare profession.”
Completing the training program made students eligible to take the STNA exam, consisting of both a written and skills section. “I have students who are currently working in assisted living facilities as state tested nursing assistants who are earning $10 an hour; a very fair wage for students who are only 17 years old,” confirmed Sofia.
“Additionally,” continued Sofia, “the students were awarded 5 free college credits from Lorain County Community College for successfully completing the STNA training. These credits may be applied toward the credits needed to earn a nursing degree.”
