Lorain County JVS Awards Scholarships to College Bound Seniors

The Lorain County Joint Vocational School held its senior recognition ceremony at the Palace Theater on May 28th.
Four hundred and nine students received career-technical certifications in their program area.
Students delivering the graduation address were Chad Tremaine, of Elyria, a student in the Industrial Electricity Program and Ariana Reynolds, of Amherst, a student in the Cosmetology Program. JVS Board of Education President Kathryn Karpus also delivered an inspirational message to the students.
During the ceremony 11 students were recognized for being members of the National Technical Honor Society and 65 students were nominated for “Outstanding Senior” in their program. Additionally 15 students were awarded Board Proclamations for participating at the national level in career-technical skill events and 9 students were recognized for having outstanding career portfolios.
Each year JVS students receive thousands of dollars in scholarships for their performance at career-technical skill events. Although too numerous to mention every scholarship awarded, the students listed below have received scholarships from the JVS Educational Foundation, the JVS Teachers’ Association, and the JVS Board of Education.
Amherst
Alex Barnes, Auto Technology Program, received a $500 LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship and a $3,200 William R. Burton Scholarship. Alex plans to attend Cuyahoga Community College and pursue a degree from the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program.
John Todhunter, Culinary Arts Program, received a LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship in the amount of $300, and $200 from the James A. Berthold Board Scholarship. John plans to attend Lorain County Community College and major in Business.
Brookside
Angela Gorka, Bakery Pastry Arts Program, received a LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship in the amount of $300. She also received $750 from the J. Edgar Martin Scholarship Fund and $150 from the James A. Berthold Board Scholarship Fund. Angela plans to attend Lorain County Community College and pursue a degree in Business and/or Bakery & Pastry Arts.
Samantha Thomas, Health Science Technology Program, received a $500 LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship and $150 from the James A. Berthold Board Scholarship Fund. Samantha will attend Marietta College and pursue a pre-med undergraduate degree.
Veronica Vasitas, Office & Administrative Assistant Program, was presented a $250 Student Memorial Scholarship given in the memory of Daniel Callihan, Lauren Hendrix and Julie L. Hogan. Veronica also received a $275 Julie L. Hogan Memorial Scholarship. Veronica will further her education at Lorain County Community College to study Medical Assisting/Coding.
Clearview
Olivia Gardner, Early Childhood Education Program, received a $300 LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship. Olivia plans to attend Cleveland State University to earn a degree in Special Education.
Elyria
Rhayven Coats, Business/Marketing Program, received a $300 LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship, $450 from the Janet Lowther McMinn and Robert McMinn Scholarship, and a $2,000 William R. Burton Scholarship. Rhayven will attend the University of Cincinnati and major in Web Design.
Chelsea Langer, from Bakery Pastry Arts, received $750 from the J. Edgar Martin Scholarship Fund. Chelsea plans on attending Lorain County Community College to study Business.
Chad Tremaine, Industrial Electricity Program, received a $500 LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship and $300 from the James A. Berthold Board Scholarship Fund. Chad plans to attend Cleveland State University and earn a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Firelands
Cody Johnson was awarded a $250 Tim Plas Memorial Scholarship. Cody was a student in the Heating & Air Conditioning Program and will continue his employment with Lewis Plumbing.
Samantha Milks received a $500 LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship. Samantha, a student from the Early Childhood Education Program, plans to attend Ashland University and pursue a degree in Education.
Keystone
Jared Rowlands, Bakery Pastry Arts Program, received a $250 LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship and a $2,000 William R. Burton Scholarship. Jared will attend the Full Sail University and major in Show Production and Touring.
Midview
Stephen (Zack) Bykowicz, Network Communications Technology Program, received a $500 LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship. Stephen will attend Kent State University and major in Computer Information Systems.
Ashley Reeves, Health Science Technology Program, received a LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship in the amount of $300. Ashley will attend Ursuline College, majoring in nursing.
North Ridgeville
Christopher Blackburn, Culinary Arts Program, received a LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship in the amount of $250. Christopher will attend Lorain County Community College to become a paramedic.
Katherine Clough, Law Enforcement and Security Program, received a $1,000 William R. Burton Scholarship. Katherine will attend Lorain County Community College in the fall.
Mike Donelon, Web and Graphic Design, received a $2,500 William R. Burton Scholarship. Mike plans to pursue a career in Computer Science and Engineering at Lorain County Community College through the University Partnership with Toledo.
Wellington
Sarah Norman, Culinary Arts Program, received a LifeShare Community Blood Services Scholarship in the amount of $500. Sarah plans to attend Lorain County Community College, majoring in Hospitality Management.
Cordellia Squire, Landscape & Greenhouse Management Program, received a $1,000 William R. Burton Scholarship. Cordellia will attend Lorain County Community College in the fall.
Lauren Stumphauzer, Health Science Technology Program, received a $1,000 scholarship from the William R. Randall Memorial Scholarship Fund and $150 from the James A. Berthold Board Scholarship Fund. Lauren will study nursing at Lorain County Community College.
