As a JVS student, parent, alumnus, community member or business partner, this newsletter is designed to keep you informed about the events and activities happening at the JVS. We will also share stories about many of our successful JVS students and graduates.

JVS Hosts Community Appreciation Day on October 8th

The JVS is hosting a Community Appreciation Day on Saturday, October 8th from 10am-3pm. This fun filled event will include a variety of activities—– something for everyone in the family to enjoy! It kicks off with an all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast at 8:00am and new JVS Sign Unveiling Ceremony at 9:00am (see related article).

New JVS Sign to be Officially Unveiled at JVS Community Appreciation Day on October 8th

JVS students from numerous programs are currently hard at work preparing and putting the finishing touches on the new JVS sign, located on the front lawn of the campus on Route 58 in Oberlin. These students have been working together for months designing, planning and constructing the sign, which will be officially unveiled at the JVS Community Appreciation Day on Saturday, October 8th.

JVS Interns Earn $250,000 This Summer

Ninety four students successfully completed the 2016 JVS Summer Internship Program. Eighty-four different companies employed interns over the summer, mentoring students as they applied their technical skills in a work-based learning environment. In total, the students earned over $250,000; additionally 14 students participated in unpaid experiences. Click READ MORE for a complete list of student participants. We are off to a great start! Along with the day-to-day demands of teaching and learning, the last month was highlighted with a Patriot Day Ceremony, the Summer Internship Celebration, a major PTA fundraiser and Parent/Teacher Conferences. Community Appreciation, our Building-wide Advisory Meetings, the JVS Craft Show and Manufacturing Month panels are all on tap for the next two weeks. Say nothing of the quality program reviews, industry credential development and end of course exam planning. That’s what it takes to operate daily and anticipate the future at Lorain County JVS.

JVS Adult Career Center Offers Cosmetology and Esthetician Classes

Learn the art and science of beautifying hair, skin and nails in a state-of-the art, working salon setting by enrolling in an in-depth, 1500-hour Cosmetology Program being offered through the Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center. Upon completion of this program, students will be prepared for their State board exam through the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology.

JVS School Resource Officer Achieves Masters Level
Deputy Anthony Pluta

JVS School Resource Officer (SRO), Deputy Anthony Pluta, recently received the ‘Masters Level’ recognition through the SRO Accreditation Program from the School Resource Officers Association Board of Directors. Deputy Pluta has served in the SRO field for 8 years and completed the advanced school-based law enforcement training.

Superintendent Dr. Glenn Faircloth salutes JVS business and industry partners throughout the year to show his appreciation for the opportunities they provide for students. Suburban Collision Center Inc. is our First Place in the Workplace honoree for September.

Owner Angelo Papotto received the award at the recent JVS Summer Internship Celebration.  Suburban Collision Center employed one student intern this past summer and has five JVS graduates as current employees.

Register Now for JVS Adult Career Center STNA Class

The JVS Adult Career Center is now registering students for the State Tested Nursing Assistant class. To register, individuals should call the JVS at 440-774-1051 ext. 22254 to schedule an information session, which is the first step in the registration process. The STNA class begins on Monday, October 17th and goes through November 15th

JVS Craft Show to Be Held on Saturday, October 22

The JVS will sponsor its 29th Annual Craft Show on Saturday, October 22nd from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be approximately 200 vendors selling a variety of products making it one of the largest craft shows in the region. There is a $2.00 door charge that will support Career-Technical Youth Club activities and leadership training for students. Canned food will be collected for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Anyone making a food donation will receive a door prize raffle ticket.
