As a JVS student, parent, alumnus, community member or business partner, this newsletter is designed to keep you informed about the events and activities happening at the JVS. We will also share stories about many of our successful JVS students and graduates.

JVS Officially Unveils New School Sign

The JVS officially unveiled a new school sign on Saturday, October 8th during a presentation ceremony conducted by JVS students, as part of the JVS Community Appreciation Day festivities. Kaylie Holliday, senior Carpentry student from Midview, and Josh Newman, senior Masonry Trades student from Columbia, delivered their personal reflections about the project. “This project means a lot to me, my class and this school and hopefully will mean a lot to the community as well,” stated Newman.

Tickets on Sale for Culinary Academy Prime Rib Dinner on November 10

The Culinary Academy is hosting its 10th annual Prime Rib Dinner on Thursday, November 10th beginning at 6pm. The cost of the dinner is $25 per person and includes a 12 oz. prime rib with au jus, baked potato, fresh vegetables, mixed greens salad, breads and assorted desserts from our Bakery, and a beverage.  Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, can be obtained by calling the JVS Financial Clerk at 440/774-1051, ext. 22275.

JVS Rewards Safe Driving for Students

In cooperation with the Safety and Education Department of AAA East Central/NE Ohio Region, JVS recently hosted the 8th annual Lorain County Young Driver Competition. This local competition is held every year to reward students for positive driving behaviors. The top three finishers in the competition were Trey Minnich (Keystone), Makenzie Tallman (Oberlin) and Justin Layne (North Ridgeville). These students received $500, $250, and $100 respectively.

JVS Blood Drive Nets Student Scholarships
Allied Health Sciences seniors Abby Green (Keystone) and Alyssa Bullard (Amherst) participate in the blood drive.

JVS students and staff once again helped LifeShare Community Blood Services complete a very successful blood drive. Students and staff took time out of their day to donate blood to those in need.

"During the two-day drive, 122 units of blood were collected," commented Susan Wallace, Allied Health Sciences Instructor and Blood Drive Coordinator.

We often see the world through our eyes only. I see colorful foliage and squirrels scrambling to preserve future meals. You see the frost, a yard full of leaves and withered summer plants. I see the year flying by, you see that it is only November. You see the accomplishment, I see the work yet to be done. We are both accurate and well within our rights to see it so, but the very gift of difference calls us to recognize the challenges that they create.

JVS PTA Hosts a Dine to Donate Event at Pizza Hut in Oberlin on November 28th

The JVS PTA is hosting a "Dine to Donate" fundraiser at Pizza Hut in Oberlin on Monday, November 28th between 5:00-8:00pm.

Anyone wishing to support the PTA can present their waiter with a special JVS coupon (click "Pizza Hut Dine to Donate coupon" under LCJVS PTA tab). You can also contact info@lcjvs.net and a coupon can be delivered to you by email.

JVS Students Participate in Paint A Plow Program
Kylee Sherrill, 9th grade student from Brookside, paints a snowman on a plow for the Paint A Plow Program.

JVS students in the Collision Repair program and 9th grade students in the Career Connections Academy are getting creative and painting snow plows that will be seen and used all over Lorain County.

For the 4th consecutive year, JVS has signed up to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation District 3’s Paint A Plow Program.

Industrial Equipment Mechanics Students Receive Training on Case IH Tractor

A huge thank you to Wellington Implement!! Dave Roser, Detailer at Wellington Implement, delivered a Case IH Tractor to the JVS Industrial Equipment Mechanics (IEM) lab earlier this school year. JVS thanks Wellington Implement for allowing our students to receive this specialized hands-on training.

JVS is Gearing Up to Give Back

The JVS Auto Technology program is once again gearing up to offer free oil changes for senior citizens. This free service will take place in mid-December and appointments will be required.

JVS FFA Students Host Food For America Program
Zachary Shutsa, senior Landscape & Greenhouse Management student from Avon, works with students on an interactive display.

JVS student members of the National FFA Organization recently participated in the ‘Food For America’ program at the Lorain County Fairgrounds in Wellington.

Approximately two hundred 3rd and 4th grade students from local school districts were in attendance. Numerous interactive displays were set up to engage the students and provide them with knowledge and understanding of the agricultural industry.
