Superintendent's Message
Dr. Glenn Faircloth, Superintendent

It’s hard to believe that we are just weeks away from culminating another memorable school year. For the past five years, as your superintendent, I have enjoyed celebrating the successes of our JVS students and all that they have accomplished.

We currently have 370 high school seniors who are invited to participate in our Recognition Ceremony on May 19th at the Palace Theatre in Lorain.

We also have approximately 100 incoming seniors (current junior students) who have been connected to a local business and will be working in a paid internship this summer.

Students Create Labels That Help Support Bluebird Conservation
Penny and Fritz Brandau, with Mr. Eric Robson's 9th grade students.

Located on golf courses, cemeteries, and on township, city, and Metro Park properties in Lorain County are more than 30 bluebird trails containing over 450 bluebird nest boxes. These bird houses, or man-made nesting cavities, are sanctuaries and homes for thousands of native birds to raise their young during a time when so much of their natural habitat has been destroyed.

Keeping track of what birds inhabit what box at any given time can be difficult. This is where the 9th and 10th grade students of Lorain County JVS stepped in to help.

Academic Spotlight: Mr. Timothy Glahn - Math Instructor
Mr. Glahn encouraging his students to roar.

Our academic instructor for the month of May is Mr. Timothy Glahn. Glahn earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Akron in Secondary Education in Mathematics and General Science. He earned his graduate degree at the University of Akron, along with his Masters of Arts in Education: Curriculum and Instruction.

Mr. Glahn teaches Algebra II and Math IV and has been teaching for 25 years.

When asked why he is in education, Glahn had this to say, “My first experience teaching was as a lifeguard assistant in 1982. The water was cold and one of the 5 year old participants in the class did not want to get in the pool. I told each of the children to make their favorite animal sound and jump in the pool. The reluctant student let out a roar and jumped right in! I am in education because I enjoy the challenge of finding out what makes each student roar! Roaring students motivate me!”
